Accessories – Which Are Most Useful?

Which food processor accessories are the most useful? The answer to this question will obviously vary from cook to cook. The most important thing to realize before purchasing your food processor is that all accessories are not available for all brands and models. Many come with an accessory package that cannot be upgraded. Others offer a full line of accessories to help you customize your new purchase to best meet your needs.

There is one accessory cherished by professional chefs but largely overlooked by home cooks: an extra work bowl or bowls. There will be many times when you are preparing a meal and could use the food processor for several steps, but you don’t want to stop and clean the bowl. Extra work bowls are invaluable in the kitchen, once you stock up you’ll wonder how you ever lived without them. I personally own six food processor work bowls in addition to the two (full size and mini) that came with my machine. Two have a permanent spot on my kitchen shelves, four are stored in a hall closet and come out before preparing large special occasion meals.

One thing a food processor can excel at in capable hands is bread making. This is definitely something all cooks should consider, since freshly baked homemade bread is one of the great joys of life. The only special equipment needed for your food processor is a dough blade. Most models already come with one and many others offer it to purchase separately. I highly recommend this accessory for all cooks. An otherwise laborious task becomes quite simple when you have a machine to mix the ingredients and knead the dough.

Those unfortunate souls not lucky enough to count a stand mixer among their possessions may want to opt for the egg whip accessory available with some brands. You will be able to whip cream, create fluffy meringues and so much more. A stand mixer is better suited to these tasks. However, an egg whip attachment is a much more budget friendly purchase and takes up less room.

Some food processor models offer a citrus juicing attachment. This makes homemade fresh squeezed juice quick and easy. You’ll appreciate this accessory as you enjoy fresh Mimosas with Sunday brunch or relax in the backyard with a cold glass of homemade lemonade.

If you find that your food processor grates or slices food too large or too small for your liking, see if they offer additional sizes in those discs.
